Zhang Linhai was born in Shanghai in 1963, he had a troubled childhood. Abandoned in an orphanage as a baby, he was adopted by a poor rural couple at the age of one, and was relocated to an impoverished village near the Tai Hang Mountains. Though taken into a loving family, Zhang Linhai suffered from numerous illnesses as a child, including polio, which left him crippled. This disability meant he was unable to contribute to his family through the conventional means of farm work, rendering him useless within the framework of rural life. Thus art became his liberation. Encountering a legion of setbacks, and defying all odds set against him as an indigent farmer's son, Zhang Linhai finally graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1990. Since then he has gone on to be one of China's most highly regarded painters, converting the bitter irony of his life into the genius of his art.

Xiao Hong was born in Inner Mongolia in 1966. He is a rising contemporary artist who shot to fame for his "Intellectual Youth" series that he created in the 1990s. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Inner-Mongolia Normal University in 1990.

Xiao Hong's historical time-space conscious with mural style expressed in his early creation, has developed from a place layout to the merge of multi space-time. In that way, his painting techniques matured from freehand brushwork in the previous stage which emphasizes more on material properties, the highlighting glamorization of multi spaces blend. Only that in his recent creation, Claude Yeevier's techniques of paingting realistic details is creatively combined with Chinese traditional mural expression represented by Dunhuang fresco. So we can see the combination of line, plane and volume, realism and impressionism, reality and imagination, delicateness and ruggedness in Xiao Hong's works. These are Xiao Hong's creative usage of painting language.
