Su Xinping, born in Jining City, Inner Mongolia, in 1960, is a prominent Chinese artist. He began his formal art education at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1979 and later completed his studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1989. Early in his career, Su created intimate black-and-white works that depicted the social changes happening during China's open policy era under Deng Xiaoping. These works often focused on themes of isolation and the lack of communication among people during this transformative time.
In his more recent works, Su Xinping explores two main themes: the impact of urbanization and the dynamics of city life. His "Urban Landscape" series reflects on how urbanization affects individuals, while his "Toasting" series uses irony to comment on social interactions, particularly in business and politics. Su's works are held in prestigious collections, including the British Museum, San Francisco MOMA, National Gallery of Victoria in Australia, Fukuoka Museum of Art in Japan, and the National Art Museum of China.
