About the Artist
Yan Bo’s paintings exude a sense of warmth and happiness – an apparent influence by French artist Henri Matisse - not in terms of form, but in terms of spirit. He is strongly inspired by the optimistic attitude to life and the enthusiasm for the positive aspect of life that Matisse has. In Yan Bo’s paintings there is a strong sense of plain decoration, which may be derived from Matisse. It is a means to stress the rhythm of colours. He always resists mannerism by rich colours and strong strokes in order to express reality and feelings directly. It is worth mentioning that the construction is simple but not empty, colour bright but not vulgar, and strokes strong but under control.
